The Moya Boys play at the second tallest Waterfall in Jamaica. The Cascade is a 45 minute hike through some tough trails leaving Holywell National Park at about 3500 feet above sea level in the Blue Mountains of Kingston. The Jamaica rainforest is lush and green with 100’s of beautiful plants and trees such as bromeliads, orchids and epiphytes of all sizes and color. There are lots of ferns and underbrush to go with the towering canopy above and everything is very green and peaceful.

Holywell Park is a nice place to relax and unwind but it’s pretty isolated and you should plan to bring everything with you because there is not much up this far from the world!

Pics from a road trip to Kingston from Negril

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

We arrived back in Negril on January 11th and we’ve been rather active since we arrived We took a few trips around the island and some kilometers on the bus. The kids really seem to love the road trips and of course Trixy loves getting out of the house. Here are some new pictures of our place at Devine Destiny here in Negril Jamaica.

We had to ride from Negril to Kingston to pick up a barrel I had shipped and it seemed like a great opportunity to visit some parts of the South Coast I had not been to in some time. I wanted to visit Black River and Treasure Beach specifically since it had been awhile and Elise and the kids had never been. We jumped in the van just late in the day but just in time to make it to Treasure Beach by sunset. We had some fun in Treasure Beach and moved on to Black River the next day.

I had never actually been on a Black River Safari so we took a boat trip down the River and once again the kids really enjoyed it. It was another great lesson in life and nature for the kids and we all enjoyed the wildlife and natural beauty of the wetlands environment. Not much else to do in Black River except maybe grab a bite to eat unless you appreciate some really old dilapidated buildings. The city was a great town in the 1800’s and lays claim to being the first town in Jamaica with electricity and air conditioning. Funny thing is the ac was for race horses and the blacks that worked the farm got to feed and clean up after them but rarely enjoyed the lights or cool breeze of an air conditioner. They brought electricity and a/c to Jamaica for the rich mans animals.

After a day in Black River we thought to run through Mandeville but we decided we would rather be up in the mountains so we headed for Kingston. We rolled into Holywell Park late in the evening and were awoken by the sounds of a beautiful morning. The birds we’re out and chirping as the sun rose over the Blue Mountains from behind us as we peered out and over the city of Kingston and it’s all important harbor. We we’re lucky enough to catch a great sunrise with the moon watching along with us before we took off for a hike down Waterfall Trail. It was a 45 minute trek into the Jamaica mountainside before we reached a really pretty waterfall and stream. The waterfall was very cool and well worth the walk back to the van which would take us muchlonger than45 minutes as I ended up carrying Robby at least half the distance back.

This is where we almost lost Elise after AJ bumped into her and she fell of the side of a cliff. She hung by some branches for a couple of minutes because Dad and Robby were WAY off the back and out of range of their voices. She was pretty scared bythe experience so I doubt we’ll be heading back to that waterfall anytime soon.

Yeah mon. eryting irie. I just spent a week in Negril Jamaica and it was all good. I’m loving it. My second trip to the island was the best one yet. I had a good time chilling on the beack for 10 days of stress free living. I seem to gravitate to Negril as it reminds me of what Key West could have been. Damn shame whats happening though. You can see the americanization of Negril in progress over the past four years.

I found a great spot to chill right near the beach and spent most of my time in the yard smoking spliffs or soaking up sun and a few red stripes on the beach. I went diving one day which was really cool. I love the ocean in jah, its so damn clear and full of life. The reef was very bleached like most of the caribbean but the bottom was covered with life. I saww some schools of gamefish and a few small cuda as well. It was cool. I was phat blunt stoneded and swimming in 50 feet of turquiose water with a dread instructor and another family with kids. We all had a blast swimming around the Jamaican reefs, it as super chill.

I rented a shack with a pretty diverse group of dudes mainky of euro descent. There were a pair of German doctors that had recently been in Cuba with some great tales to tell of travels in the caribe. Then we had my albania brother Gente and the polish kid whos name I always forget. These guys partied it up rather well with me on a few nights around town. We kicked it up at ladies night on the hip strip which was nice. These guys know how to vacation though, the polish guy was going to be in jah for 3 months and gente was in for like 4 months I think. One of them says he planted two hydro pot plants in his closet back home and yiled was like 8 kilos or some shit. He sold it all in one chunk and went walkabout in jah. Sweetness. Sold two plants and got months worth of vacation out of it. Of course they have no jobs and what not but its all good. They are both young and can take the hit.

I also met a young man named Stefan age 22 from germany also. He is a thinker for sure. Kid has some big ideas in his head about the way things should be. He schooled me on a few things and made me realize its all about fixing myself and living life my way and for myself. Damn the fouls who don’t understand its not about them. its all about me.

Here is what I have learned about Jamaicans. Jamaicans know how to live. Jamaicans know how to love. Jamaicans have no problem mon. good times soon come.
