Pics from a road trip to Kingston from Negril
We arrived back in Negril on January 11th and we’ve been rather active since we arrived We took a few trips around the island and some kilometers on the bus. The kids really seem to love the road trips and of course Trixy loves getting out of the house. Here are some new pictures of our place at Devine Destiny here in Negril Jamaica.
We had to ride from Negril to Kingston to pick up a barrel I had shipped and it seemed like a great opportunity to visit some parts of the South Coast I had not been to in some time. I wanted to visit Black River and Treasure Beach specifically since it had been awhile and Elise and the kids had never been. We jumped in the van just late in the day but just in time to make it to Treasure Beach by sunset. We had some fun in Treasure Beach and moved on to Black River the next day.
I had never actually been on a Black River Safari so we took a boat trip down the River and once again the kids really enjoyed it. It was another great lesson in life and nature for the kids and we all enjoyed the wildlife and natural beauty of the wetlands environment. Not much else to do in Black River except maybe grab a bite to eat unless you appreciate some really old dilapidated buildings. The city was a great town in the 1800’s and lays claim to being the first town in Jamaica with electricity and air conditioning. Funny thing is the ac was for race horses and the blacks that worked the farm got to feed and clean up after them but rarely enjoyed the lights or cool breeze of an air conditioner. They brought electricity and a/c to Jamaica for the rich mans animals.
After a day in Black River we thought to run through Mandeville but we decided we would rather be up in the mountains so we headed for Kingston. We rolled into Holywell Park late in the evening and were awoken by the sounds of a beautiful morning. The birds we’re out and chirping as the sun rose over the Blue Mountains from behind us as we peered out and over the city of Kingston and it’s all important harbor. We we’re lucky enough to catch a great sunrise with the moon watching along with us before we took off for a hike down Waterfall Trail. It was a 45 minute trek into the Jamaica mountainside before we reached a really pretty waterfall and stream. The waterfall was very cool and well worth the walk back to the van which would take us muchlonger than45 minutes as I ended up carrying Robby at least half the distance back.
This is where we almost lost Elise after AJ bumped into her and she fell of the side of a cliff. She hung by some branches for a couple of minutes because Dad and Robby were WAY off the back and out of range of their voices. She was pretty scared bythe experience so I doubt we’ll be heading back to that waterfall anytime soon.
